As we prepare for the holidays, enjoying family and friends, CBS All Access was kind enough to drop two exciting videos for us. One was the final trailer for Season Two. The other was filled with interviews and clips from behind-the-scenes of Season Two. Both did one thing: whet our appetites for the new season just a few weeks away from the beginning.
Here’s a break down:
Opening shot – Discovery traveling through red-orange clouds.
Spock V.O. – “There is a great responsibility at hand.”
Spock in a confined room drawing on the floor of what appears to be a galactic map.Burnham is standing alone on a rocky landscape with a phaser. Note – high boots, pants and an overcoat with a style reminiscent of the short skirt uniforms worn by Starfleet women on TOS.We cut to Qo’nos and the Chancellor’s quarters.Tyler kills an assailant from below.L’Rell comes in for the kill with a bald Klingons, indicating he considers himself still at war.
Spock V.O. – “This could be the defining moment for multiple civilizations, millions of lives. The future could be determined by our actions – yours and mine.”
Spock conveys to Burham what could be at stake.Burnham: “We really are on the other side of the looking glass now, aren’t we?”Another angle of Discovery in orbit.
Pike V.O. – “We are investigating seven red bursts, which typically herald the arrival of a being we call The Red Angel.”
Pike informs the crew of the Discovery of their mission.Burnham examines data in a 3-dimensional starchart of the seven red bursts.Saru is awe-struck by his encounter with The Red Angel.
Spock V.O. – “This Angel showed him an apocalyptic vision. Someone or something is going to end all sentient life in the galaxy.”
Cornwell is shocked by Spock’s revelation.The Discovery confronting a large red cloud or nebula.A security team line up with their phasers drawn on a being exiting a shuttlecraft.
The person on the shuttle is revealed to be Mirror Georgiou, who has taken on the identity of Captain Georgiou of the prime universe.
“Quite the welcome.”
Pike V.O. – “Captain Georgiou?”
Georgiou reveals her Section 31 badge.Burnham is shocked by Georgiou’s appearance.“Yes. Good times.”An inky Black, menacing seemingly non-corporeal being appears.The being appears to be in front of Saru who is chained to a wall on the interior of a spaceship.
Tyler V.O. – “It is Section 31’s position the Red Angel should be considered dangerous.”
Tyler inspects a star chart as he debriefs Burnham and Pike.Crew members in space suits on a desolate planet or asteroid.Cut to Spock dressed as if he is in a mental ward; incapacitates medical officer with a Vulcan pinch.Discovery alongside an unidentified vessel.Burnham enters a shuttlecraft possibly searching for something or someone.Tilly is violently overtaken by what appears to be the same black inky alien that we saw earlier before Saru.
Tyler V.O. – “We are in the middle of a fight for the future.”
Tyler attempts to relay the severity of the situation to Captain Pike.Pike responds: “Mr. Tyler, we are always in a fight for the future.”Lt. Keyla Detmer alerts: “Captain, 10 sentry ships on an intercept course.”There is a hooded figure beaming onto a ship with a levitating device firing at something offscreen directly in front of her. This figure appears to be Georgiou in disguise.Taking aim at its any opponent.Cut away to a clip from that asteroid field we’ve seen before where there are two figures in spacesuits tumbling carelessly towards one another in space.Burnham: “I risked everything to help you.”Spock: “You assume every burden is yours alone.”Saru: “Discovery will not allow a catastrophe on her watch.”Georgiou delivers a flying kick to Burnham’s head.Discovery pulls something in its tractor beam.Discovery appears to crash into a mycelial forest.The inky black figure appears to threaten someone off-screen.Discovery attempts to navigate a violent stellar occurance.Discovery steers away from the stellar occurance.Stamets to Burnham: “It worked. I mean, of course, it worked.”Lt. Commander Stamets and Burnham encountering the phased force field that entered the bridge.Pike warns: “Lord knows what’s waiting for us out there. Be bold . . . Be brave . . . Be courageous.”A shuttlecraft leaving Discovery is caught in the wake of an explosion.Spock and Burnham on a shuttle craft that is caught in the wake of an explosion.Tilly examines a unknown substance.Tilly’s curiousity gets the best of her.Tilly is forcibly pushed back by an unseen force.Saru is confronted by the inky black creature.Two Discovery crew members hold hands (possibly Tilly and Stamets).Stamets extracts something from Tilly.Georgiou pulls a phaser on someone.Tyler and Burnham passionately reunite as they embrace just prior to a kiss.The Discovery in orbit.Spock: “Captain, we are riding into danger.”Pike: “Is that a smile I see on your face.”Spock: “Yes.”Pike: “Welcome to Discovery.”Pike: “Maximum warp.”Discovery going to warp.Saru, with his sister Siranna, are stopped in their tracks by something or someone they fear.Burnham running down a corridor in apparent danger.A unknown force field phases through bridge of the ship, pushing and anyone out of its way.
Finally, in the behind-the scene trailer entitled “What to Expect in Season 2,” we get a few new images but THIS ONE was specifically intriguing to me.
Burnham and Saru dressed as civilians in clothing similar to what we saw Kelpiens wear in The Brightest Star. They appear to be Kaminar, the Kelpien homeworld.
All of this is making me want January 17th to get here as quick as possible! What about you?
