Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2, E9 – “Subspace Rhapsody”

For the last three weeks, we’ve repeatedly seen Star Trek: Strange New Worlds take creative risks. The range of inventive chances taken with storytelling techniques and subject matter is inspiring. “Subspace Rhapsody” is the most experimental of the most recent episodes. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2, E8 – “Under the Cloak of War”

“Under the Cloak of War” is the one of most ambitious and mature episodes of SNW thus far. It tells a story of trauma that investigates the moral grey area of war. It shows how extreme brutality can exact a price on those who are exposed to it.

We loved this episode for the serious, adult tone it took to the subject of war and the scars some carry with them long after the fighting is over. “Under the Cloak of War” works so well because it delivers an intelligent approach to a story that is extremely timely. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2, E1 – “The Broken Circle”

In “The Broken Circle” Pike leaves Spock in command of the Enterprise while he goes off to secure legal representation for First Officer Una. However, Spock still struggles with controlling his emotion and fears it will impair his judgment. But when they receive a distress call from La’An on a planet near Klingon space, he throws caution to the wind and takes the crew into danger, potentially risking restarting war with the Klingons.
