Passions run high, and lighting gets low on this week’s episode! When the cosmic trickster Trelane traps the USS Enterprise inside a soft-focus daytime soap opera, Captain Pike finds himself navigating a world of evil twins, sudden amnesia, and dramatic cliffhangers. But beneath the Vaseline-smear lenses and organ stings lies a surprisingly raw exploration of Pike’s suppressed grief and the phantom life he was forced to leave behind. In this review, we break down “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass”: • The Acting – Anson Mount’s balancing act between comedic straight man and dramatic powerhouse, plus Deidre Hall’s soap-legend guest appearance. • The Visuals & Directing – How Anna Dokoza translates daytime TV camera mechanics and soft-lighting aesthetics onto the Enterprise bridge. • The Writing – Does using melodrama as a vehicle for emotional honesty work, or does high-concept genre fatigue drag down the story? Grab your coffee, brace for the cliffhanger, and join us as we debate whether this homage lands as a character study or stumbles under its own gimmick!
