Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season One Review

Today, we’re diving into examining the first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. We tackle what we thought worked and what didn’t. Additionally, we also drill down into the unique premise of Starfleet Academy, a Star Trek series that explores a Federation that has lost its way and is seeking to reclaim its principles.

Starfleet Academy – “Vox in Excelso”

“Vox in Excelso” centers on the pacifist Klingon cadet Jay-Den Kraag, exploring his backstory and challenges with his heritage. When an existential crisis threatens to wipe out the Klingons, Jay-Den is forced to confront his past and his strained relationship with his family. DS9 ReWatch: S1, Ep. 19 – “Duet”

Age of Discovery is kicking off its DS9 ReWatch with “Duet.” Originally conceived as a bottle episode designed to save the show money, “Duet” is the first great episode of the series. It was the first time the show confidently embraced its’ potential by setting the action exclusively on the station and relying on the strength of intense two-person scenes between series regular Nana Visitor and guest star Harris Yulin for most of its 45-minute run.
