“Memento Mori” continues the Strange New Worlds storytelling approach of reexamining the types of stories told on TOS but with a new twist. Last week it was the “disease of the week.” The week before that, it was the “ancient alien artifact and the primitive planet” ala “The Paradise Syndrome.” This week, we combine the deadly threat of the Gorn from the “Arena,” with the cat-and-mouse stealth hunt of “Balance of Terror” and “The Wrath of Khan.” The writers and director add an atmosphere of horror and suspense to heighten the tension.
