Star Trek: Discovery has its Spock

We have a Spock for Season Two of Star Trek: Discovery.

It was announced on Tuesday, August 14 that the third adult male to play the half-Human, half-Vulcan First Officer of The U.S.S. Enterprise will be Ethan Peck.

Showrunner Alex Kutzman said in a statement:

“Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek. The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion.”

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con panel he had teased that we would see the iconic character during this season but it was unclear as to whether Kutzman meant the child-like version that had already been revealed serveal months ago. Kurtzman’s statement went on to say,

“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”

ethan_peckPeck’s credits include recreating the role of Patrick Verona in the ABC Family TV series 10 Things I Hate About You. The role was originally played by Health Ledger in the film of the same name. Additionally, he was a series regular on the CW Seed digital series I Ship It. Among his other credits Peck has appeared on The Drew Carey Show, That’s 70’s Show, Gossip Girl and Madam Secretary. He has also done some modeling work.

Yesterday, in traditional Star Trek fashion, Ethan was welcomed into the family by Leonard Nimoy’s children, daughter Julie and son Adam, with a photo shared on Twitter.
