Addell and Gary tackle the twelfth episode of Season Two, “Through the Valley of Shadows.” Over the last few weeks, the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery has been pushed to the edge in an attempt to find a way of stopping the end of all sentient life. The loss of crew member Airiam, the Control AI’s takeover of Captain Leland, and most recently, the discovery and loss of Michael’s mother, Dr. Gabrielle Burnham, makes their efforts to succeed appear hopeless. For Michael, the sense of loss is greater than she could stand. It has caused her to spiral into a pit of despair. Spock, Saru and Captain Pike believe in continuing the pursuit. But they will find that the cost of coming up with a solution will require a new sacrifice on a very personal level for yet another crew member.
